The Annapurna Base Camp Trek takes you into one of the Himalaya's most dramatic landscapes: the Annapurna Sanctuary — a glacial bowl enclosed by Annapurna I (8,091 m), Machhapuchare (6,993 m), Hiunchuli, and seven more giants. The approach via the Poon Hill ridge and the Gurung village of Chhomrong adds cultural richness to the high-altitude drama.

Before You Go

Important Notes

One-horned rhinoceros
  • Permits: ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) + TIMS — arranged by TempleFront.
  • Best seasons: March–May (rhododendrons) and October–November. December–February is cold but quiet.
  • The hot spring pools at Jhinu Danda on Day 11 are one of the great trail rewards.
  • Fitness: a moderate trek — be able to walk 5–6 hours a day on consecutive days with some long stone-stair sections. No technical skills required.
  • Connectivity & money: mobile signal and teahouse Wi-Fi reach most of the route but are intermittent higher up. Carry cash in Nepali rupees — the last reliable ATMs are in Pokhara.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance including emergency helicopter evacuation is strongly recommended.

Frequently Asked

Frequently Asked Questions

Tiger in the foliage
Is this a private trek?

Yes — every TempleFront trek is guided exclusively for your group. We never combine you with other trekkers.

What is included in the price?

All required permits, a licensed English-speaking guide, porters, teahouse accommodation, and breakfast and dinner throughout. Lunches are on your own account at teahouses en route.

Is the ABC Trek suitable for beginners?

The ABC Trek is achievable for motivated beginners with good general fitness. The maximum altitude is 4,130 m — lower than EBC — and the trail is well-marked. Daily walking of 5–6 hours over 11 trekking days requires consistent fitness. No technical experience needed.

How does ABC compare to EBC?

ABC is lower (4,130 m vs 5,364 m) and reaches a more intimate setting: a glacial amphitheatre ringed by peaks, with Machhapuchare right overhead. EBC is wilder and higher. Both are exceptional — ABC is often preferred by those who want a complete Himalayan experience in fewer days at lower altitude.

What about altitude sickness?

The trek rises gradually to 4,130 m. Poon Hill on Day 5 (3,210 m) provides acclimatisation before the high sanctuary. Consult your doctor about altitude medication. Inform your guide of any symptoms immediately.

What gear do I need?

Sturdy trekking boots, trekking poles, layers for cold nights at Annapurna BC, waterproof shell, sun protection, and a headlamp. A full kit list is provided on booking.

What are the teahouses like?

Good facilities in the lower sections and at Chhomrong; simpler in the upper Sanctuary (Deurali, MBC, ABC). Twin rooms with shared facilities throughout. Your sleeping bag is essential.

How do I confirm a booking?

Send us a WhatsApp or email enquiry. We respond same day with a detailed quote. A deposit secures your dates.
